About Legal Aid

Representation under a Grant of Legal Aid

Legal Aid NSW funds legal help for people who cannot afford a private lawyer. Many Legal Aid matters are handled by private law firms that Legal Aid NSW has appointed to its panels. A lawyer can act for you under a grant of Legal Aid only if their law practice is on the relevant panel.

Peerzada & Associates is appointed to the Legal Aid NSW Panels for Criminal Law, Family Law and Children’s Criminal Law. If your application is approved and your matter is assigned to us, you receive the same care and attention as every other client.

Eligibility

Who Can Get Legal Aid?

Legal Aid is not available for every matter. Legal Aid NSW decides each application by looking at:

  • your income and assets (the means test);
  • the merits of your case; and
  • its guidelines for that type of matter.

To apply for Legal Aid, you need to contact Legal Aid NSW. We may be able to assist you with your application. Legal Aid NSW may ask you to pay a contribution towards your legal costs. To check whether you may be eligible, use the Legal Aid NSW Means Test Indicator or call LawAccess NSW on 1300 888 529.

The Process

How It Works

  1. Call us or send a message and tell us briefly about your matter.
  2. If Legal Aid may be available, we will explain the process and may be able to assist you with your application to Legal Aid NSW.
  3. If your application is approved and your matter is assigned to us, we act for you under the grant.

Legal Aid NSW decides who receives a grant and which lawyer is assigned, so we cannot promise that a particular application will succeed. We will always tell you honestly where you stand.

You can speak with Irfan in English, Hindi, Urdu or Gujarati.
