Intellectual Property Lawyers in Auburn and Western Sydney
Your brand, your creative work and your ideas are valuable business assets. We help you protect them, use them commercially and act quickly when someone else copies them.
Our Approach
Protecting Your Brand, Ideas and Creative Work
Many business owners assume that registering a business name protects their brand. It does not. We explain in plain English what rights you already have, what you should register, and how to avoid using a name or design that belongs to someone else.
We act at every stage, from searches and registration through to licensing, enforcement and disputes, before the bodies and courts that deal with intellectual property:
- IP Australia: applications to register trade marks and designs, renewals, and oppositions to other people’s applications.
- ASIC: business and company names, and making sure a new name does not use someone else’s trade mark.
- Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia: disputes about copyright, trade marks and designs.
- Federal Court of Australia: intellectual property disputes of all kinds, including patent disputes.
Where a dispute proceeds to a hearing, we work closely with experienced barristers where needed and stay involved in your matter from start to finish.
If someone is copying your brand or work, or you have received a letter accusing you of infringement, please contact us promptly. Acting early usually gives you more options and can reduce the cost of resolving the matter.
You can speak with Irfan in English, Hindi, Urdu or Gujarati.

Good to Know
Key Things to Know
Business Names Are Not Trade Marks
Registering a business or company name with ASIC does not give you exclusive rights to the name. Only a registered trade mark can do that.
Copyright Is Automatic
Copyright protection is free and automatic in Australia. There is no formal registration system, so keeping records of when and how you created your work is important.
Trade Marks Last 10 Years
A registered trade mark must be renewed every 10 years. If it is not renewed on time, the protection lapses.
Designs Last Up to 10 Years
A registered design lasts for 5 years and can be renewed once for a further 5 years, giving a maximum of 10 years’ protection.
