We represent clients at every stage of a family law matter, from first advice after separation through negotiation, mediation and family dispute resolution to court proceedings, final orders and appeals:
- Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia: divorce, parenting, property and other family law proceedings, including family law appeals.
- Local Court of NSW: apprehended domestic violence orders (ADVOs).
- Family Dispute Resolution and Mediation: reaching agreement without going to court, and obtaining section 60I certificates where needed.
- Consent Orders and Financial Agreements: formalising what you have agreed so it is clear and enforceable.
In complex matters that proceed to a final hearing, we work closely with experienced barristers where needed and stay involved in your case from start to finish.

How We Can Help
Family Law Services
From the first conversation after separation through to final orders, we can help with:
Divorce
Joint and sole divorce applications, serving the other party and attending the hearing if needed. To apply, you must have been separated for at least 12 months.
Parenting Arrangements
Where children will live, the time they spend with each parent and how important decisions are made. We help you reach agreement and, where needed, apply for parenting orders.
Property Settlement
Dividing property, superannuation and debts after separation, and claims for spousal maintenance. Strict time limits apply, so it is important to get advice early.
Consent Orders and Financial Agreements
Formalising what you have agreed, either through consent orders approved by the Court or a binding financial agreement made before, during or after a relationship.
Child Support
Advice on child support assessments made by Services Australia, applying to change an assessment in special circumstances, and child support agreements.

Key Things to Know
12 Months’ Separation
You must have been separated for at least 12 months before you can apply for a divorce. If you have been married for less than two years, there are extra requirements, usually including a counselling certificate.
Time Limits for Property
Married couples must apply for property orders within 12 months of their divorce becoming final. De facto couples must apply within two years of the relationship ending.
Family Dispute Resolution First
Before applying to the Court for parenting orders, you generally need to attempt family dispute resolution and obtain a section 60I certificate. There are exceptions, including family violence and urgency.
Children Come First
In parenting matters, the Court’s focus is the best interests of the child. Since 6 May 2024 there is no presumption of equal shared parental responsibility, and the law has never required children to spend equal time with each parent.
