Criminal Law
Criminal Lawyers in Auburn and Western Sydney
Being charged with an offence, or being contacted by police, is stressful. We explain the charge, the evidence and your options in plain English, and stand by you from the police station to the courtroom.
Our Approach
Clear Advice When It Matters Most
A criminal charge can affect your job, your family, your licence and, if you are not an Australian citizen, your visa. We listen to your side of the story, review the police brief carefully and give you honest advice about your options.
We represent clients at every stage of a criminal matter, from police investigations and first court appearances through to hearings, sentencing and appeals, in courts across New South Wales:
- Local Court of NSW: traffic matters, AVOs, bail and summary offences, which make up most criminal cases.
- District Court of NSW: more serious indictable offences, and appeals against Local Court decisions.
- Supreme Court of NSW: the most serious offences, and bail applications where bail has been refused in the Local Court.
- Children’s Court of NSW: offences alleged against young people under 18.
Whether you decide to plead guilty or defend the charge, we prepare your case thoroughly and represent you in court. If you plead guilty, we help you put forward the strongest possible material for sentencing.
In serious matters that proceed to trial in the District Court or Supreme Court, we work closely with experienced barristers where needed and stay involved in your case from start to finish.
If you are unhappy with a Local Court decision, you generally have 28 days to appeal to the District Court, so please contact us promptly.
You can speak with Irfan in English, Hindi, Urdu or Gujarati.

Good to Know
Key Things to Know
Get Advice Before You Speak to Police
In most cases you have the right to silence when police are investigating you, although you may have to give your name and address in some situations. If police want to speak with you, get legal advice first.
Where Your Case Will Be Heard
The Local Court deals with most criminal cases in NSW. More serious indictable offences start in the Local Court and may then be committed to the District Court or Supreme Court.
Outcomes Without a Conviction
For some offences, the court can deal with a matter without recording a conviction, for example under section 10 of the Crimes (Sentencing Procedure) Act 1999 (NSW). Whether this is possible depends on the offence and your circumstances.
Charges Can Affect Your Visa
If you are not an Australian citizen, a criminal charge or conviction may affect your visa under the character requirements. We can advise you on both the criminal matter and the migration consequences.
This is general information only, not legal advice. Please speak with us about your own situation. Legal Aid NSW may fund some criminal matters: more about Legal Aid.
